Summertime sunshine and strawberries (and a surprise brief shower) marked another wonderfully convivial day of ladies bowling, with 18 members competing for the Rena Eyles Trophy and the Alice Standing Plate.

What makes this one-day, 2-wood triples competition so enjoyable, is the Order of Play, comprising 3 matches of 6 ends each during the morning session, a shared break for lunch all together on the terrace, with 2 further matches of 6 ends in the afternoon… no bells, no stopwatches, no stress!  Just randomly drawn teams of 3 ladies each, supporting, laughing, and enjoying the day’s bowling, with each team playing every other team once, and never on the same rink twice.  Two points are awarded for a winning match, and 1 point for a drawn match, so the progression through the rounds is exciting throughout the day.

And so it was today, with the team of Pam Martin, Lin Rook and Carolina Vottero and the team of Kasia Cornish, Sheila Grant and Angie Whitaker both scoring a total of 4 wins out of 5 after coincidentally playing each other in the final round!  The number of positive shots confirmed Pam, Lin and Carolina as the overall winners of the Rena Eyles Trophy 2026, with second-placed Kasia, Sheila and Angie presented with the Alice Standing silver salver.

Congratulations to all the ladies who made this a relaxed and thoroughly enjoyable competition, and special thanks to those who stepped in at short notice to play for those unable to do so.  Our thanks, as always to our President, Jenny Moore, who came to watch and support as she has throughout the season, along with other members of the Club, whose kind interest is always much appreciated.

On behalf of us all, further thanks to Petra Stephens for running the bar, Lin Rook for setting up the Kitchen, as ever to the Green Team for their labour prior to playing, and to David Steele for laying up the rinks this morning.
